Call for Abstract

The UTK Chapter of Sigma Xi has resumed its annual student competition! This year, for the first time, we will include undergraduate students in the competition.

The competition is based on an abstract and an oral presentation of research conducted at UT toward an advanced degree. The competition, which is open to all graduate and undergraduate students, will take place at the University Center on Thursday, April 16, 2009, and will consist of 20-minute presentations (15 minutes for presentation and 5 minutes for discussion). The presentations will be judged by a faculty panel with expertise in each of the major areas represented.

Award Mechanism

The first place winner in each category will receive a check for $150 and the second place winner a check for $75. In addition, they will receive a certificate of award. The awards will be presented at a reception to be held on April 17, 2009.

Letter of Intent Submission

In order to help us better organize the competition, we require each participant to submit a letter of intent to Dr. Hairong Qi through email (hqi@utk.edu). In the letter of intent, please indicate your name, department, advisor, and potential title of presentation.

Abstract Submission

Students interested in participating in the competition must also complete the abstract form (abstract of 150-250 words) and email it to Dr. Hairong Qi (hqi@utk.edu) before the deadline. Please direct all questions to the same email address.
